Does anyone know anything about Pez Tropin, or growth hormone therapy?

Carhop3000 asked:

I have a six year old daughter who has been diagnosed with Septoptic Dysplasia. She hasn’t grown in years, she is the size of a two year old. (I am a little woman, and she was 4 wks. premature, but in the last year or two it had become obvious that something else was wrong–surely she shouldn’t be THAT small.) The doctors have started her on pez tropin, a shot she takes every day. I have tried to get info on this online, with NO luck. Please help if you can–I’d like to know, is the shot amino acids, a protein, or what? I would appreciate any accurate information very much. Maybe I could try the library next. In the meantime, does anyone have an answer??? I am in a different state from my daughter right now, and can’t speak to the doctor myself to find out. She’s having surgery this summer. We are praying everything is healthy, and that this missing hormone or whatever it is will help her grow. Her petuitary gland does not produce it. Any facts would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hello..I have never heard of Pez tropin, but I guess it must be a form of somatropin (growth hormone). I am guessing your daughter tested positive for gh deficiency? GH is only in injectable form and I don’t see why she would be prescribed anything else. I take Nutropin AQ myself for adult gh deficiency. The gh your daughter is taking should bring her IGF1 levels to normal for her age, that is the goal. She probably won’t catch up but should start growing at a normal rate. Has your daughter’s other hormone levels been tested? Since there is pituitary damage from her condition other hormones should be watched very carefully. Cortisol is very important for stress and EXTREMELY dangerous to be without. Thyroid can be low and also repro hormones. I hope you have a very good endocrinologist with pituitary expertise. If not, its important to get one and you can search the listing at this site. Growth hormone is not just for childhood, as an adult she will also need it or will have a lot of health problems (osteoporosis, fatigue, aching, depression, etc.)
