Am I old enough to start hormones?

staples701 asked:

I’m 17 years old and I desperately want to start hormone therapy to become a woman. I live in Texas, and I do not know if I am allowed to take hormones or not, I have parental consent, so that is not the issue. Help!

With your patents permission you can start hormones anytime. You just need to get the go ahead from your doctor then your set.

why would you want to? They’re horrid for your body. You can’t become a woman anyway, your body is of a man, no matter how many hormones yo u take.

You definitely need professional advice. Hormones require a prescription any way so consult a doctor.

Yes, sooner the better…. BEFORE puberty is over. Most of us wait until later in life once the hormones from birth have already done their damage. See a doctor, but no, you’re not too young.

I’m not sure about the rules in Texas, your best bet is for you and your parents to find a trans friendly doctor.

Good luck kiddo, I have a friend from Texas and she said finding a doctor was tricky. Don’t give up though, and don’t be discouraged. You’ll feel a huge sense of accomplishment when you fill that perscription for the very first time.
