Has anyone heard announcement about the dramatic decrease (7%) in breast cancer since hormone replacement?
PajamaMama asked:
therapy was shown to cause cancer several years ago? At that time, women were discouraged from taking it during menopause because there were fears of cancer. Since then, breast cancer cases have decreased by 7%. What are your thoughts about this? Are the hormones in hormone replacement therapy medications the same as those in birth control pills?
There is some information about it in case you hadn’t heard the announcement. I’m insterested in your thoughts and future actions in response to this. And, I want to know if birth control pills have the same hormones in them that hormone replacement therapy drugs do.

Also, why do you think we try to classify menopause as an illness to be cured? Isn’t it a normal process that women’s bodies go through in their natural development?
But it is my understanding that hormone replacement therapies all contain estrogen-progestin combinations. It is also my understanding that birth control pills contain the same hormones. Why would the effects of birth control pills be any different than hormone replacement therapy, which has now been proved to cause cancer?
See this link for wikipedia info on birth control pills

Also, since hormone replacement therapy is used on women who are going through menopause, which is caused by gradual decreases in the naturally occuring female hormones estrogen and progestin, what do you think the effects of those hormones would be on women of childbearing age who already have normal levels of those hormones in their bodies?

yes i did hear about it
No, and actually medical evidence shows that there may be a link between the incidence of breast cancer and hormone therapy. As doctors we’re taught NOT to prescribe hormone therapy to postmenopausal women who have increased risks of breast cancer. Actually, the only time hormone therapy is advised is during menopause only to alleviate hot flash and other systemic symptoms.
Ye sI heard about it. No birth control pills are not the same thing. Hormone replacement is done during menopause
yup i have heard about it. and no birth control is not the same.
